Superintendent D'Agostino's Weekly Communique - Issue 59 - Teachers and District Leaders Working Together

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

Last week, I had the opportunity to have lunch with our district’s teachers’ union president and her vice president. They had spent the day at some of our school sites, talking with their members about issues affecting the important work teachers do every day. I welcome this collaboration.

In strong school systems, the most meaningful progress happens when site and district leadership work in genuine partnership with teachers. Each group brings a unique and essential perspective to the work of educating children. Teachers understand the daily realities of the classroom and the individual needs of students, while school and district leaders bear responsibility for ensuring that systems, resources, and long-term planning support success for every school and every child.

Superintendent D'Agostino's Weekly Communique - Issue 58 - A Full-Time Job with Lots of Support

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

It's never lost on me that parenting is one of the most difficult and important things we do as human beings. Not only are we raising the next generation, but we are impacting the future of our society with the words and actions we use with our kids. Unfortunately, we don't get a parenting handbook when we leave the hospital with our newborn; we have to figure out parenting on our own. Our training and preparation as parents come from “on-the-job” experience.

These thoughts were not lost on me when I met with parents last week at one of my “Coffee Chats.” Initially, parents shared with me the challenges they face helping their children with their homework, but there is so much more that we face as our kids grow, learn, and socialize in school. So, for this week’s message, I thought it would be appropriate to share some of the ways parents can help their kids be prepared for success in school and life:

Elementary School Parents

Creating a consistent, supportive foundation at home should be the main focus for parents with elementary-aged students. This means establishing regular routines for sleep, homework,...

Superintendent D'Agostino's Weekly Communique - Issue 57 - The Tapestry of Traditions Is Our Strength

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

As we acknowledge and celebrate the Lunar New Year, I feel it's important for us to reflect on the blessings that come with living and working in such a resilient community as ours. We make up a vibrant tapestry of cultures, heritages, and languages that creates a place where community, tradition, and mutual respect create the foundation for opportunity and collective achievement. Rosemead is truly a multicultural community with a majority Asian community alongside a rich and growing Hispanic population, and representation from multiple racial and ethnic backgrounds who live, work, and raise families here. More than half of the city’s residents were born outside the United States, bringing with them histories, languages, and traditions from across the globe.

As a first-generation American, I am proud to see that in every neighborhood, block, and business corridor, our local markets, family-run eateries, community festivals, and civic celebrations are integral to our identity. The interplay of diverse cultural influences, rich traditions, and contributions from others makes our community a vibrant and thriving place for public education.

Rosemead School District Press Release announces the delivery of over $570,000 in tax relief to the Rosemead community, as the district refinanced General Obligation Bonds.

Rosemead, California: On February 17, 2026, the Rosemead School District finalized the sale of General Obligation Refunding Bonds that will deliver more than $570,000 in taxpayer relief to the community.
The District refinanced General Obligation Bonds (“GO Bonds”) issued under Measure RR approved by voters in 2000. The District achieved the savings by taking advantage of low interest rates without extending the term of the originally issued GO Bonds.

Under state law, all savings from the Measure RR bond refinancing will go directly to taxpayers. For the median taxpayer with a household Assessed Value of $421,158, this will result in an average annual savings of approximately $5.03 over the next ten years, or $50.25 in total savings. The District will not receive any additional funds.

Superintendent D'Agostino's Weekly Communique - Issue 56 - Traditions to Classrooms: Embracing Lunar New Year Across Our District

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

This week, many of our students and families will begin celebrating the Chinese New Year. Often called the Spring Festival or Chinese Lunar New Year, it is the most important holiday in China and many other Asian communities. This year, the festivities begin on February 17, with the new moon, and will last for 15 days until the next full moon. The holiday began as a time for feasting and to honor household and heavenly deities, as well as ancestors.

In the Rosemead School District, the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year holds deep meaning for many of our students and families. With a richly diverse community that includes many families of Chinese and broader East Asian heritage, this holiday is far more than a date on the calendar; it is a time of renewal, gratitude, family unity, and cultural pride. Traditions such as honoring ancestors, sharing festive meals, exchanging red envelopes, and gathering for lion dances and community celebrations connect generations and reinforce values of respect, perseverance, and hope.

The image is a weekly communique from the Rosemead School District superintendent, discussing the importance of positive male parenting and its impact on student success.

Dear Rosemead Families and Community,

I make it a point to talk to my son and daughter every day, even though they are both in their mid 20’s and living their own lives. One conversation with my daughter moved me because she shared with me how I was indispensable to her as she (and her brother) grew up as a product of a broken family. I’m glad their mom and I always made our kids our highest priority, and that we were both there for them.

When I think back on how I raised my children, I cannot help but reflect on my importance as a positive male role model for them. I believe that fathers and other steady male role models can be a powerful protective force in a young person’s life. At their best, they offer more than “help”: they provide anchoring. A consistent adult who shows up, listens, keeps promises, sets boundaries with warmth, and models self-control teaches a child what safety and respect feel and look like. That presence becomes a quiet message a child carries into school, friendships, and the wider world: You matter. You can do hard things. Your choices have purpose.
